Lovable weirdos #1 – the pink settee

Being a weirdo is the best because life is never boring and you attract other weirdos, multiplying life’s fun and laughs. This is my disclaimer for calling people weirdos. Please direct your complaints to: notlistening@youllgetoverit.com.

We source a lot of our furniture through eBay and the people I meet when collecting our loot are pretty much all certified legends (and weirdos to boot).

This settee is one of the most popular items in our vintage hire range.

I ‘won’ it (great work on that sales technique eBay; I won I won!) from Beryl, a fierce 85 year old from East Keilor. I knew Beryl’s age after speaking with her daughter to arrange collection. And being an assuming jerk, I thought she’d be a very small, frail, white haired old biddy.

Beryl was six feet tall, wearing tight, fabulous jeans, a sweater and sporting bouncy brown hair. The pink settee was a gift from her husband and had been in their hallway for 55 years. Beryl was selling most of her and her late husband’s furniture because she was downsizing.

And I may be an assuming jerk, but Beryl did show her age eventually, revealing that the settee had been covered in plastic for most of its life. Not the biggest shock I’ve ever received. Because A) it is was in pristine condition and B) there was so much plastic covering the furnishings that you could host a bucks party paint balling expedition in the lounge without damaging a thing.

Plus she shoved handfuls of Werther’s Originals into my pockets, saying “You are a very good girl, you should have some lollies for the way home”. Thanks Beryl.
